MIDDLETOWN — Jon Paul Fenk led the way with 14 points as the Middletown High School junior varsity boys” basketball team battered Winters 52-14 in a non-league game on Monday night in Middletown.
Jordan Smith added 12 points and Gabe Guzman had 11 as the Mustangs improved to 9-1 on the season.
Winters suited up only five players against a Middletown squad coming off a championship in the 20th annual Record-Bee Hoop Classic, a tournament in which they set a record for allowing only 123 points in three games. The Mustangs proved quite stingy on defense again Monday as they allowed only three points in the first half – it was 30-3 at the intermission.
“We played well given the circumstances,” Middletown coach Jon Hoogendoorn said.
Middletown hits the road Friday to play Elsie Allen in Santa Rosa at 6 p.m., the team”s final tuneup before the start of league play on Jan. 7.
