The other night I watched the TV show Duck Dynasty for the first time and found myself wondering if activism has turned for the better. As one who has witnessed eight generations of behavioral changes that include speech, sexual and drug use freedoms, have been altered by activism. Although frightening to some, we continued to improve as a nation. We are now into three years of the next generation and wonder, how are we doing?
I believe we are moving in the wrong direction based on the moral and virtue ethics portrayed by our secular-driven government and self-aggrandized activism.
Activism has been with us since the beginning of civilization and generally requires only two prerequisites to become one. Speak with eloquence and authority.
Two examples of recent notable activists would be Martin Luther King, “humanist,” and Al Gore, “opportunist.” Both have made progress in their personal objectives, however King did it through kindness and love, Gore did it for greed. Recent special interest activist of which there are many, such as the fat, sugar, salt, soft drinks, etc., preach to their audience as not having any common sense and must be motivated by their empirical knowledge. I am amused at the fat cops because as a youngster my diet contained large amounts of saturated fat. Since then I have learned what moderation means without outside intervention. In recent months activists has overwhelmed our local community with their ultimate goal to exploit it for production, distribution and personal use of marijuana. There is no doubt they have achieved their objectives. However, the local observer may have the feeling of betrayal and helplessness by our government to control undesirable outcomes for the majority. Therefore, permitting a weak and lawless community. History has proven it takes a well-informed majority to make a difference. Finally, if any of the above words or expressions has offended anyone, please accept my apology.
