
CITRUS HEIGHTS — The Punisher Wrestling Club of Lower Lake opened a new season by sending 21 of its members to the Mesa Verde PAL Classic on Sunday in Citrus Heights.
More than 500 wrestlers competed in the varsity, junior varsity and elementary divisions. Punisher wrestlers came away with nine first-place medals, 11 seconds and two thirds. In fact, each Punisher wrestler won a medal and one of them, Bryan Gudino, took home two.
Gudino wrestled in two weight brackets and won each, going a combined 6-1 on the days. Also winning their weight brackets with 3-0 records were Tristan Day, Skyler Day, Adam Viramontes, Blake Fredrickson, JJ Cushman, Mikey Naber and Mason Roath, who beat younger brother Jayden 7-2 in the finals.
Next up for the Punishers is a weekend doubleheader in Sacrament on Saturday (Tournament of Champ-ions) and Sunday (USA Wrestling tourney).
