In H.M. Finnie”s Dec. 17 letter concerning socialized medicine he states, “When something works, that”s what you use.”

Without getting into specifics his reasoning is short-sighted because he”s trying to correct a problem by changing the outside.

It”s better to change the inside first then the changes on the outside will automatically follow, just like the best way to remove frost from a windshield is not by scraping it away but by raising the temperature.

Overall, socialized medicine does more harm than good and should be avoided regardless of the apparent short-term benefits. Handling the health care situation properly rather than resorting to socialized medicine is a more difficult path to follow, but in the long run it is well worth the effort.

But I”ll leave it at that for now because I don”t want to start repeating what I”ve already said.

On another topic, initially, I wasn”t going to respond to Guthrie “Guff” Worth”s Feb. 12 letter entitled, “Aggressive behavior,” but what he did in that letter was very wrong, at least from my point of view.

From his stand-point the end justifies the means, so it was okay to do what he did, which was to grossly misrepresent the situation because it was a way to further his liberal cause.

His letter led most readers to think that there must have been a mean-spirited letter from me that they didn”t see.
