LAKE COUNTY — In a busy day for Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility staff, law enforcement agencies throughout the county made the most arrests in a single day so far in 2014.
A total of 24 people were arrested Wednesday and booked at the county jail, according to the Lake County Sherriff”s Office (LCSO) online booking logs.
Of the 24 people arrested, at least 16 were charged with at least one felony.
The LCSO made 12 arrests, 10 of which included at least one felony charge, according to information gathered from the arrest logs.
Several requests for information regarding some of the felony arrests were made to the LCSO, but the requests went unresponded as of publication time.
No information was released by the LCSO via its Nixle system either.
The Lakeport Police Department (LPD) made two arrests in as a result of an investigation into a series of gasoline thefts in the City of Lakeport, according to a press release issued Wednesday. Both suspects were arrested on several felony charges. The press release was issued the same day the arrests were made.
The Clearlake Police Department made a single arrest for a misdemeanor offense.
The remaining nine arrests were surrenders to the Lake County jail, arrests made in court and apprehensions made by the Lake County Probation Office.
Among the charges piled-up by the 24 detainees, the most commonly occurring charges implicated possession of a controlled substance, with eight people arrested with that charge, according to the LCSO booking logs data. Four people were arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and alcohol charges. There were two people who were arrested with firearm charges, two with marijuana charges and one on a burglary charge.
The two people arrested by the LPD in connection with the thefts investigation were apprehended on control substance possession charges.
According to the data gathered from the LCSO online booking logs, 154 people were arrested in 12 days of March as of Wednesday.
The day with the second most arrests so far this year was Feb. 12, when 22 arrests were made. The most arrests in January were made on the ninth, when 19 people were arrested.
The lowest number of arrests made in a single day this year has been three.
Attempts to gather more information, including how many inmates are currently in custody at the jail, and additional information that would better place the reported information into context was requested from the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility, but personnel at the jail said all information to the media had to be issued by LCSO Public Information Officer Lt. Steve Brooks. A phone call and an email sent to Brooks went unresponded as of publication time.
