CALISTOGA — Bouncing back from a 13-1 loss to Redwood Christian of San Lorenzo in the opening round, the Lower Lake High School softball team beat St. Helena 5-3 in its second game Saturday to earn a split at the Wildcat Invitational in Calistoga.
Redwood Christian went on to beat Calistoga in the championship game.
That the Trojans (4-2) were able to win even one game is a credit to their pitching and defense because the team managed a combined three hits on the day. Losing pitcher Shelbie Harris doubled home Lower Lake”s only run with the Trojans” only hit against Redwood Christian.
In the win over a St. Helena, a team the Trojans face again today in the league opener for both teams at St. Helena, Lower Lake had just two hits – singles by Kristen Celli and Alex DeGraw.
Harris tossed a two-hitter in the win over St. Helena, striking out 10 and walking four. She lasted just 2 2/3 innings against Redwood Christian, allowing eight runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Ashlynn Mock finished up.
Harris was named to the All-Tournament team.
