DENVER — Brothers Bryan and Arturo Gudino of the Punisher Wrestling Club of Lower Lake traveled all the way to Denver to participate in the Rocky Mountain Nationals on Saturday and Sunday.

More than 1,000 wrestlers from across the United States attended the competition.

Bryan, competing in the 49-pound, 10-and-under division pinned Chance Houser of Nebraska in the semifinals to reach the championship match against Manuel Lopez of Colorado. Bryan scored a convincing 15-0 technical fall to complete a 3-0 weekend on the mats.

Arturo Gudino wrestled in the 38-pound, 6-and-under division and went 0-2.

While the Gudino brothers were representing the Punishers in Colorado, another team member, Blake Fredrickson, was attending the 46th annual Tournament of Champions this past weekend in Loomis. California”s toughest middle school competition drew 550 TOC qualifiers.

Wrestling in the 70-pound weight class, a 24-man bracket, Fredrickson made it through to the semifinals where he was pinned late in the third round by Jacob Rivera of Darkhorse. Rivera went on to win the division. Fredrickson rallied with a 5-1 win by decision in the medal round and went on to finish fifth.

The Punishers return to action this weekend at the California State Championships.
