It”s already been years that people such as Sue Willams tried to get unemployment pay for the three summer months teachers are not at school. The answer then, and is still the answer now, is that the teachers are paid for the entire year, not just the nine months they are in school. So it is up to them to budget their pay so it lasts the entire year. It is also the reason they do not qualify for unemployment. Technically, they are not unemployed for the three summer months they are not in school.

It seems to me that particular stipulation about their pay being for the entire year would be clearly spelled out in their contracts. I suppose some of the teachers do have problems making their pay spread out over the entire year, which is a budgeting problem. I also wonder if the teachers have the option of having their pay made in 12 monthly parts or if they are only paid during the nine months they are in class.

I hope this answers Miss Williams and her quest to help teachers and their budget problems.
