LAKEPORT — The case against former Hoberg”s Club manager Daniel Nelson was scheduled for a settlement hearing and trial date Monday.

A settlement conference will be held on 1:30 p.m. June 17 in Department 4.

The trial date is set for 8:15 a.m. on July 23.

Nelson is charged with one count of burning without a permit and two counts of failure to secure payment of compensation.

All charges are misdemeanors.

Escrow closed on the Hoberg”s Club property in Cobb on Wednesday, according to the Lake County Recorder-Assessor”s office.

Additionally, the new owners, Lake County Partners, LLC, paid a little more than $100,000 for all current and past due taxes on the five parcels affiliated with the Hoberg”s Club property Thursday, according to the Lake County Treasurer-Tax Collector office.

Lake County Partners, LLC, consists of Frank Sasselli and Silvester Rabic, according to Roger Salazar of ALZA Media, which represents Lake County Partners, LLC.

Sasselli and Rabic are currently searching for investors, Salazar said.

Hoberg”s Club was purchased by Cobb Mountain Partners, LLC, in July 2010 with plans to renovate the property and open it as a club, resort, concert venue and filming site.

But the resort has yet to open and has accrued numerous lawsuits against its former manager, Dan Nelson, and owners.

“Settlement arrangements have been made for obligations between Cobb Mountain Partners and local vendors,” Salazar stated.

According to Salazar, Westlake Environmental Contractors, James Day Construction and Gifford”s Backhoe Service have been paid in full.

Keith Westlake, owner of Westlake Environmental Contractors, filed a lawsuit on March 19, 2013, claiming that Cobb Mountain Partners, LLC, did not pay a $30,250 bill for cleanup and disposal of asbestos his company performed in November 2012 at Hoberg”s Club Resort, according to court documents.

Gifford”s Backhoe Service is owed $6,462 with 7-percent interest from Feb. 1, 2011, according to the mechanic”s lien.

Messages left for Kenneth Gifford, president of Gifford”s Backhoe Service, and Keith Westlake were not returned as of press time.

James Day Construction, now Coastal Mountain Electric, received payment for the “initial invoice amount of $5,918.48” Friday, according to Office Manager Susan Schenck.
