MIDDLETOWN — The Calpine Geothermal Visitors Center will host an Earth Day celebration on April 26.
The focus of the annual event will be animal, vegetable and mineral, according to Karen Turcotte Williams of Calpine. The celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Calpine will host the day”s events along with tours to the geysers. The day will feature animal exhibits by 4-H; master gardeners ready to provide advice; Star Gardens Nursery hosting an assortment of appropriate plants for your garden space; while the Rockhounds will be ready to tell all about minerals and teach panning for gold, Williams stated. Calpine team members will be around to share more about the geysers, the exhibit hall and the area”s geology.
Lake County Vector Control, Lake County Special Districts, Lake County Sheriff”s Office, South Lake County Fire Council and other organizations will be onsite to provide information with ideas for activities in nature provided by the Sierra Club, Redbud Audubon Society and Lake County Land Trust, Williams stated.
There will also be an EcoArts tent for attendees to participate in an outdoor art project telling the story of Calpine”s fish ladder project, which helps Russian River steelhead get up river, she stated.
On stage, the band Blind Spot will be featured along with intermittent student performances during the day. Nonprofits such as the Lake County International Charter School, will provide food for sale.
Seats are limited for geysers tours and reservations are strongly recommended.
