UPPER LAKE — A free-of-charge, walnut grafting and field day will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Suchan Farm and Nursery.
In addition to grafting and budding walnuts, participants will see severe winter kill on 2- and 3-year-old grafted trees and will be taught what to do when winter kill occurs. There will also be a tour of cover crops farmed with an unusual management style.
Most of the skills demonstrated on walnut trees apply to other fruit and nut trees, according to Mary O”Meara.
