COBB — The Middletown Unified School District (MUSD) Board of Trustees nominated Davina Pyzer as the district Teacher of the Year.

Pyzer has worked as a fifth-grade teacher at Coyote Valley Elementary in Middletown for 21 years.

The MUSD board voted 4-1 for Pyzer, with boardmember Sandy Tucker dissenting.

According to MUSD Superintendent Korby Olson, each school selected a candidate. The teacher chosen will compete for Lake County Teacher of the Year.

May 14 was designated as Day of the Teacher by the MUSD board with unanimous approval.

Additionally, the week of May 18 was designated as Classified School Employee Week with unanimous approval from the MUSD board.

In other business, the board of trustees unanimously approved a resolution regarding specifications of election order and a request for consolidation.

The resolution is a requirement any time board members are scheduled to be elected, according to Olson.

“The request is to not have a separate election for the school board,” Olson said. “It will be done during the November election.”

According to the MUSD website, boardmembers Jay Albertson, Lynette Carrillo and Yvette Sloan have reached the end of their four-year terms as boardmembers.
