LAKE COUNTY — The Court Appointed Special Advocates of Mendocino and Lake counties (CASA) is accepting volunteer applications.

CASA volunteers are community members of all backgrounds and educational levels working with the judicial system, supporters and policy makers to assure that every child has a voice, according to CASA Executive Director Sheryn Hildebrand.

A volunteer”s primary roles include standing up for children by ensuring they receive the services they need to advance their well being; gathering information, writing reports and making objective recommendations to the court on what is in the best interest of the child and providing consistent support by establishing a stable relationship with a child living in a foster or group home.

The nonprofit was established in 1994 and graduated its first volunteer advocates in 1995. In 2010, CASA expanded its program from Mendocino County into Lake County.
