LAKE COUNTY — Vote-by-mail ballots for the June 3 Statewide Direct Primary Election will begin to be processed by the Registrar of Voters Office at 8 a.m. Monday and will continue through Election Day, as well as during the official canvas.

The counting of the official ballots will begin June 3 in the Registrar of Voters Office; however, results will not be announced until after the close of the polls at 8 p.m., according to Maria Valadez, deputy registrar of voters.

The official canvass will begin on June 4 at 9 a.m. and will continue daily (excluding weekends and holidays) until completed, Valadez stated. Observers are invited to view the processing and counting of the ballots, but shall not interfere with the election process.

Additionally, the Registrar of Voters office advises new residents of Lake County, as well as registered voters who have moved to a new address, changed their mailing address within the county or changed their name, that they may need to reregister in order to be eligible to vote in the upcoming election, Valadez stated.

The last day to register to vote for the June 3 election is May 19.

The completed voter registration form must be either personally delivered to the Registrar of Voters Office on or before May 19 or, postmarked on or before May 19 and received by mail by the Registrar of Voters Office.

Pursuant to Section 2101 of the California Elections Code: “A person entitled to register to vote shall be a United States citizen, a resident of California, not in prison or on parole for the conviction of a felony, and at least 18 years of age at the time of the next election,” Valadez added.

Residents may register to vote at the Lake County Registrar of Voters Office, Room 209 of the Lake County Courthouse. Registration can also be done online at http://registertovote.ca.gov/ and forms are also available at most post offices, libraries, city offices, and Chamber of Commerce offices.

For information, call the Registrar of Voters Office at 263-2372.

The Lake County Courthouse is located at 255 N. Forbes St. in Lakeport.
