KELSEYVILLE — Soroptimist International of Clear Lake members will celebrate the club”s 50 years of service to Lake County with a dinner on May 30 at the Riviera Hills Country Club.
The event is for former members and friends of the club. No-host cocktails will be offered from 6 to 7 p.m. with dinner to follow. The 2014-2015 board will be installed during the evening.
The club was chartered on May 22, 1964 at Seigler Springs Resort. Since 1995, the club has held its meetings at Howard`s Grotto Restaurant in Clearlake. Soroptimist International”s slogan is “Best for Women.”
Throughout the years, the club has supported multiple projects: In 1993, with a donation of $22,000 from the Ottinger Estate and another $2,000 raised from the Park Walk, Soroptimist International of Clear Lake gave the city of Clearlake $24,000 for the Light Up the Night project and lights in Austin Park were turned on for the first time. The Clear Lake club has also provided mammogram”s for women without insurance, assistance to safe houses for women and children and monetary awards for student volunteerism and head-of-household women continuing their education.
Additionally, the club has made donations to the county”s senior centers, Dr. Paula Dhanda”s projects, Sponsoring Survivorship and other Lake County organizations. Currently the club is working with Lower Lake High School`s Clothes Closet and Students of Strength Club.
