It seems to me that the Sheriff”s position should be by appointment rather than by the election process. Since time immemorial, the office of the Sheriff has been an elective office. In chartered cities, the city council appoints (hires) the Chief of Police. In the county, Supervisors are elected in the same manner as city council members. The people place their trust in the actions of both city council members and of the supervisors respectively. Give the BOS the right to do this! Set strict rules of qualification. Limit the hire to a number of years. Conduct job rating evaluations annually. Benefits should be limited to time served. Just my 2 cents worth.
