MENDOCINO COLLEGE — Student Amethyst Raybee was awarded a $2,500 scholarship from the California Mathematics Council Community Colleges Foundation (CMC3).
Mathematics faculty from across California nominated students for the CMC3 Foundation scholarship, with Raybee taking the top award.
Raybee is a tutor and leads MESA mathematics workshops on campus. She is actively involved in Mendocino College student government where she serves as the President of the Associated Students and a member of both the Curriculum and President”s Policy Advisory Committees.
Raybee was nominated by Mendocino College instructor, Leslie Banta, with the full support of the mathematics faculty.
Raybee is graduating from Mendocino College with an associate”s degree in mathematics. She intends to pursue a bachelor”s degree in mathematics with the goal of earning a Ph.D. in math history. She would eventually like to develop math history curriculum for both Kindergarten to 12th grade students as well as community college students.
