
LAKE COUNTY — Clear Lake High School junior catcher Cole Brodnansky is the MVP on the 2014 edition of the All-North Central League I baseball team as selected by the league”s coaches at a May 19 meeting.
Brodnansky was a key component in Clear Lake”s 13-1 run to the undisputed league championship under head coach Zane Jensen. An offensive force, Brodnansky led the Cardinals (20-6) and Lake County in hits (37) and doubles (18) while tying teammate Mitch Seely for the team and county lead in RBIs (24). He also handled a starting rotation that had three different pitchers win six games apiece. Two of those three pitchers — juniors Dillon Williams and Matt Heller — were named to the All-League team.
Six Cardinals in all were accorded All-League status. Others honored were seniors Seely and David Mansell and junior Jared Strate.
Middletown and Kelseyville combined for seven more All-League players. From Middletown, All-League honors went to seniors Josiah Amos and Brad Bologna as well as juniors Tyler Holt and Cody Chorjel. From Kelseyville, All-League honors went to Noah Lyndall, one of only four sophomores honored, and to seniors Jonathan Smith and Jonathan Villarreal.
Willits had three players honored — senior Hank Harris, junior Dimitri Betts and sophomore Justin Thom — as did Fort Bragg — seniors Shane Tupper and Tyler Ashby and sophomore Kaylor Sullivan.
St. Helena”s two All-League selections were senior Jackson Graff and sophomore Alex Archer.
Cloverdale”s lone All-League player was senior Greg Scaramella.
Lower Lake was shut out of the All-League voting.
Several of the seniors honored are participating in the sixth annual NCL Senior All-Star Baseball Game on Wednesday at 4:45 p.m. at Mendocino College in Ukiah. Playing on the East squad are Clear Lake”s Seely and Mansell, Middletown”s Amos and Bologna, and Kelseyville”s Smith and Villarreal.
