Stacey is quite correct. Evolution is not proved. Einstein”s general theory of relativity is not proved. Quantum mechanics is not proved. So lets look at Creation by God. Day one God created light. There appears to be no source as the sun and stars are not created until day four. And this appears to be unlike any light we are currently familiar with. God is able to separate this light into discrete areas so he can call this area with light day. Is this light moving? Einstein tell us that light moves at a constant speed no matter where we see it coming from. Sorry, this is a theory and has not been proven. If so then it has to be moving to somewhere but it must stay within the boundaries of day. If it is not moving then the plants created on day three will wither and die as they need moving photons striking their leaves in order to create the molecules necessary for their existence. But, as we cannot ?see” the creation of these molecules then we can”t ?prove” that it is what the plants are doing.
Day two God separates the waters from the waters (can we assume that this is the water on the ground separated from the clouds from which, comes rain?). I wonder why this was done as the water cycle driven by the sun will start this process immediately after the sun is created.
Day four God creates the sun and the stars. He puts the stars (suns not close to the earth?) within the dark and the sun in the light. Things must have changed a great deal for stars to be all around us now and not just in the night. And are we to believe that the lesser light is the moon? As we know today, the moon does not generate its own light but merely reflects light from the sun. Did God think early people were too stupid to understand this concept? Or was there actually a lesser light and it has since disappeared?
Day five God creates sea creatures and birds. How strange to create just birds and not all of the land animals on the same day. Is there some creation theory explaining why this is so? Does this classification of birds include bats and insects that fly?
Day six God creates all of the land animals, cattle included. Strange that we don”t find cattle fossils discovered with fossils of the extinct dimetrodon. I would think this would have been one of its favorite foods. Were dimetrodons prevented, somehow, from going into the same areas as cattle? Did God control the daily lives of these land animals?
I am sure it is well within His capabilities.
The things I don”t understand, from Stacey”s letter, is why do we even have to eat? Can”t we worship God and declare his greatness without eating? It seems that when it doesn”t rain and nourish our plants we end up starving. Is this part of God”s plan? Why do we have to breath? And why through the same orifice that we use for eating? Are some people supposed to choke on their food? Why do we need to procreate? If God needs more people to worship Him, can”t He just create more men from the dirt? What”s the creation theory on that?
Charles Darwin had no degree in science. Albert Einstein worked up this special theory of relativity while a patent clerk. Isaac Newton created the theory of gravitation, but his degree was in math not science. You don”t need a degree in science to understand and execute the scientific method.
If the debate is over four words then the creationists must have ways of testing these four words in a repeatable fashion? Be able to show how this theory explains the observable facts better than competing theories? Make predictions about future observations? I have seen a lot of ?Creation Theories” recently and none of them even attempt to use the scientific method. Perhaps when Stacey has the time she will point me to the right one.
