LAKE COUNTY — Students from Precious Moments Preschool participated in their walk-a-thon last week, raising money to benefit Lake County”s Imagination Library.

The school”s fundraising event has taken place annually for more than a decade and has benefited various causes throughout the years, according to Kelly English.

The event is designed to teach the children about community involvement by showing them that they can make a difference in other people”s lives, according to the preschool”s director, Terrie Sullivan.

The 28 preschool students spent several weeks gathering pledges from family and friends and exceeded their goal for contributions to the Imagination Library. The sense of pride was contagious and smiles were abundant as the students walked for the cause, according to English.

The Imagination Library program was founded by Dolly Parton in 1996 in Tennessee with the goal of getting books to children living in her hometown. Since then, the program has spread nationwide. Every $25 donated to the Imagination Library program sponsors one child, who will receive a hard-bound book each month for a year delivered through the mail to their home.

The program sponsors literacy for Lake County”s residents who are younger than 5.

For information about the program or to make a donation, contact Stephanie Wayment at 262-4163 or swayment@lakecoe.org.
