LAKEPORT — The Lakeport City Council (LCC) held its first workshop regarding the 2014/15 city budget Tuesday.

“Management is proud of the work that has been put into this budget,” Lakeport Finance Director Daniel Buffalo said.

According to Buffalo, revenue for the city is expected to total approximately $15.7 million. Expenditures are expected to total approximately $18.8 million.

The budget strongly focuses economic development, infrastructure and capital, Buffalo said.

A public hearing regarding the budget will be held at the June 17 council meeting.

In other business, the council approved a nearly $1 million agreement with Vulcan Construction and Maintenance, Inc., with a 4-1 vote. Councilman Marc Spillman was the sole dissenting vote.

The agreement is for a water meter replacement project, which is primarily funded by the U. S. Department of Agriculture, Lakeport City Engineer Scott Harter said.

The council unanimously approved a resolution to designate 20-minute “green zone” parking spots on city streets.

Cheese”s Main Street Pizza requested the spots be placed in front of the business, Harter said. However, the newly designated spaces will be at the southern end of the block between First and Second streets on Main Street, in order to prevent traffic flow issues.

According to Councilmember Martin Scheel, all the businesses in the area will benefit from the creation of the 20-minute parking spots.

An in-depth story regarding the budget workshop will appear in a later edition of the Record-Bee.
