LOWER LAKE — Shannon Ridge Family of Wines will sponsor Emily and Ray Mayo as they head to the National Junior High Finals Rodeo in Des Moines, Iowa, on June 22-28.
This is the fifth year that Shannon Ridge has helped sponsor the Mayos as they compete in nationals.
“We are so proud of these two kids,” Margarita Shannon said. “They are hardworking and talented and we are happy to help get their horses to Iowa to compete for Lake County at the National Junior High Rodeo Finals.”
The Mayos both qualified for the national finals at the California Junior High Rodeo State Finals last month in Plymouth.
Ray, 14, is a three-time champion bull rider in California High School Rodeo Association (CHSRA) District 2, 2013 state reserve bull riding champion, and a 2013 and 2014 national qualifier in bull riding.
Emily, 12, is a two-time (2013-2014) CHSRA District 2 champion pole bender, a two-time (2013-2014) state qualifier in barrel racing and pole bending, and a 2014 national qualifier in pole bending.
Shannon Ridge Family of Wines has a history of helping out in the local community. In the past it has donated to Sponsoring Survivorship, a Lake County organization that benefits women battling breast cancer, and has raised funds for Konocti Regional Trails and the Anderson Marsh Interpretive Association through their Cattails & Tules Food & Wine Pairing Festival.
