LAKE COUNTY — The cases involving three people who were allegedly involved in a double murder saw delays Tuesday at the Lake County Courthouse.
Dahnna Phyllis Burrows, Conrad Joseph Velez and Dakota Joseph Velez made an appearance in court for a discovery motion hearing and the setting of their preliminary hearing.
Deputy District Attorney Ed Borg said in court that discovery was not yet available to turn over to the defense.
Attorney Mitchell Hauptman, who represents Conrad Velez, expressed concerns with the amount of time it is taking for the defense attorneys to receive the discovery information and said it was “the third or fourth time” the issue was addressed.
Hauptman, along with the other two defense attorneys, opposed to setting a date for the preliminary hearing because he does not yet have discovery information, he said.
The hearing was continued to next Tuesday to check progress on discovery availability.
The three defendants face charges including murder, carjacking and attack with a deadly weapon that is not a firearm.
They are accused of being involved in a sequence of events in January that involved the homicides of Edward Harry Morgan, 46, of Kelseyville, and Frank Busch, 45, of Lakeport.
The investigation into the deaths began the night of Jan. 27 when firefighters found Busch dead in a home at Highland Springs Road while they responded to a structure fire, according to Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO) reports.
Hours later, at about 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 28, Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO) personnel responded to Robin Hill Road where Morgan was found dead in the middle of the roadway. Morgan was reportedly thrown out of an SUV, run over and assaulted with an unknown weapon, according to the LCSO.
The three are in custody at the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility.
