LUCERNE — Highway 20 Gallery, a new art gallery located in the Harbor Village Artist Studios in Lucerne, will hold its grand opening from 3 to 6 p.m. on June 28.

The event is open to the public, free-of-charge and some of the featured artists will be on hand to discuss their work. The exhibition is curated by Deborah Hayner, artist in residence of the Highway 20 Gallery.

The opening exhibit will showcase the works of 13 contemporary artists: Deborah Colotti will show her mixed-media assemblage and sculpture; Sherry Parker, a collage artist, will show 13 of her mixed-media works; Carl Heyward, a visual artist and writer, will display his mixed-media collages and collage cards; experimental artist Hayner will exhibit assemblage from found objects and her end-of-the-world collages and Hope Kroll will exhibit her collage work using second-hand, hardcover books.

Additionally, Linda Masotti will show mixed-media works and sculptures; Liz Cohn, Oregon based artist and owner of Gallery 6 PDX, will show her framed and mounted collages, along with bird note cards; Janet Jones will show mixed-media artworks that utilize letterforms, words and language; Marsha Balian will show her works full of colorful and seemingly random scenarios; Leah Ayer will display a collection of mounted, medium format photographs taken during her travels around the U.S. and Dave Getz will show his shoe and floating ribbon limited edition prints.

The exhibit will also include a tribute to rock ?n” roll art and photography with artists Bob Sheridan, who is the owner of the gallery, and Thomas Morrison. Sheridan will show his portraits of ”70s rock ?n” roll musicians and Morrison will show his personal collection of posters as signed, numbered and embossed archival prints. Getz, the original drummer for Big Brother and the Holding Company, will also have a Janis Joplin poster titled “Ball and Chain” on display.

“Our goal is to place our artists” work in a wide range of public and private collections, getting them the exposure they deserve,” Hayner said. “I know incredible artists, and over the years I have often fantasized about curating an exhibit of what I felt to be the best art around. Often the best art is not the most commercially successful. It has long been a dream to open an art gallery where the commercial aspects of the art world did not dictate what went onto the walls, pure and uncompromised, and when we found this great space, I knew the opportunity was there.”

The gallery is located at 6195 E. Highway 20 in Lucerne, adjacent to the Lucerne Harbor Boat Ramp.
