UPPER LAKE >> The bank building on Main Street in Upper Lake is home to a new business, The Upper Lake Mercantile.
A sister business to the Tallman Hotel and Blue Wing Saloon Restaurant, the mercantile sells an assortment of items, which include jewelry, jams, paintings, plants, furniture and art.
The mercantile, which opened at the end of April, is owned by Tallman Hotel and Blue Wing Saloon proprietor Lynn Butcher. Susan Saunders manages the store.
Acording to Saunders, many of the products sold in the shop are locally made or sourced.
Saunders ran an art gallery and store across the street from the Tallman Hotel and Blue Wing Saloon Restaurant for approximately five years.
“I always wanted to move closer to the hotel and the bank building was standing empty for a long time,” Saunders said. “It kind of evolved in a natural way.”
“We”ve tried to create a store that will enhance the quality of life for locals, as well as visitors to the Tallman Hotel and Blue Wing Saloon,” Butcher stated.
According to Saunders, the mercantile”s inventory changes constantly.
“The store has been doing very well, we”ve been having both local people and guests from the hotel come in,” Saunders said.
The Upper Lake Mercantile is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
