
LAKEPORT >> Summertime is grillin” time, and members of the Westside Community Park Committee are preparing for the fifth annual “Grillin” on the Green” fundraiser, an afternoon event featuring a friendly barbecue competition with plenty of food, drink and entertainment for all ages.
This year”s Grillin” on the Green barbecue cook-off is scheduled for Aug. 2 from 5 to 8 p.m.
Local organizations, individuals and professionals go head-to-head in the cook-off, preparing their best barbecue recipes for attendees, who will vote for their favorites. Casey Dye of Clear Lake High School Sports Foundation, Delta Iota Tau and Adrian Hoaglen of Still Smokin” and Q-n garnered bragging rights with their respective first-, second- and third-place wins last year.
Tickets for the event cost $25 per adult and $10 per child 12 or younger. Children 2 or younger attend free-of-charge. All proceeds benefit the Westside Community Park.
Tickets for Grillin” on the Green may be purchased in advance at the Lake County Chamber of Commerce office, Main Street Bicycles and Lake Event Design in Lakeport, as well as at Polestar Computers in Kelseyville. Tickets will also be sold at the function.
“Come out and join us for a fun evening in the park. Dance. Eat. Play — all while helping us raise funds to continue developing the park,” Dennis Rollins, chairman of the Westside Community Park Committee, said. Children”s activities, including a bounce house and water slide, are planned. Music will be provided by the LC Diamonds. Classic cars will be on display by car clubs.
Attendees enjoy a full dinner with fixings to accompany the barbecue dishes, Rollins said. Past years” attendees have called the fare the “best barbecue around,” he added.
Salads, beans, desserts and beverages will be provided by Ruzicka Associates, Main Street Bicycles, Lakeview Market and the Lakeport English Inn. Snow cones will be available from Marta and Domingo Avillea.
Westside Community Park is a recreational facility in Lakeport that has been in development for 15 years. The nonprofit park committee is developing the park in conjunction with the city, volunteers and numerous contributions by individuals and businesses dedicated to constructing a recreational facility for the youth and adults of Lake County.

Sponsors include the Keeling-Barnes Family Foundation, which is pledging matching funds up to $5,000, the Ustrud-Rollins Family, Kathy Fowler Auto Center, Guy Strohmeier”s Auto Center, Lake Event Design, S2 Tutoring and PR, Lake County News, Lake County Record-Bee, and KNTI-FM radio. Levels of sponsor recognition are $100, $300, $500, $1,000, $3,000, and $5,000. Sponsors will be recognized at the event.
The event takes place at Westside Community Park, which is located at 1401 Westside Park Road in Lakeport.
