
CLEARLAKE >> The 57th annual Redbud Parade and Festival will be held July 5 at Austin Park.
The parade will kickoff the event at 11 a.m. Bob and Marian Kiel will be the grand marshals. The parade will begin at Redbud Park and end at Austin Park.
Immediately following the parade will be the 47th Clearlake International Worm Races. Live worms of all sizes will race to become the champion. People can bring their own worms or rent one from the stables of the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce. There will be three age class divisions, younger than 6, 7 to 14, and 15 and older. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded.
•Worms have no eyes, they do sense light.
•More than an hour of exposure to direct sunlight will paralyze a worm.
•Worms have five hearts.
•Worms breath through their skin.
•Worms can regenerate their tails but cannot grow new heads.
•The longest earthworm ever recorded was found in South Africa and measured 22 feet long.
The 14th annual Show ”n” Shine will present a park full of cars from various clubs and organizations. The show will include 1974 and earlier vintage cars, early 1900s cars and trucks as well as stock, modified and exotic, which will arrive about 8 a.m.
The festival will open at 12:30 p.m. and will feature live music, Lakeshore Lions barbecue and craft booths.
A fireworks display over Clear Lake will round out the event at dusk.
A carnival will be held at Austin Point July 3 through 6, featuring rides and carnival booths.
