MIDDLETOWN >> At its July 1 meeting, Gibson Museum members voted unanimously to change the hours for the museum to Wednesday, Friday and Saturday afternoons from 1 to 5 p.m., rather than to 6 p.m.
As the museum gathers more docents, it may extend its hours again, according to Nina Bouska.
Members also discussed ongoing work on the building, including the handicap access, upgrading electrical work and the museum”s signage.
Modest upgrading of the displays occurs each week. However, the first major updating of the displays is scheduled for November, centered around a theme of Veterans Day, Bouska stated. The archeology and geology displays will remain essentially unchanged, but most of the display cases will be reworked. The museum will also start work on obtaining permissions to display personal collections on loan. People with antiques they aren”t willing to permanently part with are being invited to display them for a month or two.
Gibson volunteers have undertaken the task of scanning the Lake County Historical Society”s collection of its POMO Bulletin, which published three times a year and is filled with oral histories and articles by history buffs since 1955. The digitized collections will be available for research on Gibson”s gallery computer. Planning, organizing and implementing fundraising events and activities is a never-ending need, Bouska stated. The only definitive decision was to hold a yard sale in mid-September.
