MIDDLETOWN >> The Middletown Pool will be closed for water maintenance today and Thursday because of algae.
All public pools mandate that guests must rinse off in the shower area provided at the pool before entering the water to prevent cross contamination, according to Kati Galvani, public services analyst for the Lake County Public Services Department.
“One of the most common reasons for a pool to become infected with algae is swimmers who have been swimming in a creek,” Parks Superintendent Dana Smalley says. “Bathing suits carry the spores to the water and create an issue with the chemical balance.”
The pool is currently scheduled to reopen for public use on Friday.
“The County of Lake Parks Division works very hard to keep the pool and parks open for all county residents and apologizes for the closure,” Public Services Director Caroline Chavez said.
A sign will be posted at the pool with the most up-to-date information.
Normal pool hours are noon to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. The pool season runs through Aug. 10.
Contact the Public Services Department Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 262-1618 for information.
The Middletown Pool is located at 20962 Big Canyon Road.
