KELSEYVILLE >> The Unitarian Universalist Community of Lake County will host “Remembering Pete Through his Songs” on Aug. 13 to honor Pete Seeger.
Musician and songwriter Jim Scott will perform many of Seeger”s songs, such as “If I had a Hammer,” “Turn, Turn, Turn” and “Where Have All the Flowers Gone,” according to Deon Pollett.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. All interested singers are welcome.
“We”ll raise our voices for the causes Pete championed and remember the great contributions to our American heritage Pete made in his 94 years of life,” Pollett stated. “We have lost an icon, but not his legacy of poetry and song to guide and inspire us.”
Scott is a prolific composer in his own right, Pollett stated. He visited more than 600 Unitarian Universalist churches during three decades of travels. Though Scott is often brought in as the speaker, his services are always musical.
Scott compiled and arranged the “Earth and Spirit Songbook,” a collection of more than 100 songs of earth and peace by contemporary composers, including Seeger, which was funded through grant from the Fund for Unitarian Universalism.
Scott has also taught courses at Oberlin College and has been an artist in residence at a variety of schools and universities.
Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased online at www.eventbrite.com/e/pete-seeger-songfest-with-jim-scott-tickets-12311172047. Seating is limited.
