UKIAH >> The American Red Cross Nurse Assistant Training (NAT) program is now offered at a new location, with new equipment and an improved schedule to shorten the time commitment for its Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) program.
Information sessions will be held on Thursday and Aug. 14 from noon to 1 p.m.
A program approved by the state of California, NAT not only provides students training essential for jobs in health care, but also the life skills training essential to the job search process, according to Valerin Lopez AmeriCorps Member, California Safe Corps.
Students who participate will receive hands-on clinical training at an area health care facility, hands-on training based on real-life scenarios using the classroom and video instruction, two-year Red Cross CPR, AED and First Aid certifications and life skills training including resume building, mock interview skills, completing job applications, time management, teamwork and communication in health care workplaces.
Upon graduating, students are presented with an American Red Cross Nurse Assistant pin awarded during the graduation ceremony, a certificate of completion for eligibility to sit for state examination and placement on state registry, employment assistance at a job fair with area health care employers and state testing scheduled on their behalf, Lopez stated.
“Becoming a CNA used to take eight weeks; now students graduate in just 28 days,” Lopez stated. Classes will take place Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Classes will begin on Aug. 18 and there are a limited number of scholarships available for qualified students.

Both the classes and the information session will take place at the new office located at 132 S. State St. in Ukiah.
