MIDDLETOWN >> The Gibson Museum & Cultural Center is in need of historical photos to scan and display, as well as short-term volunteers.
“We have acquired several new volunteers who are proving to be very helpful,” Nina Bouska stated. “But there is still need for volunteers to help man the associated history organizations booth during the four days of the Lake County Fair, August 28 through 31. It could be quite enjoyable.”
The group of historical organizations — the Lake County Historical Society, Ely Stage Stop & Country Museum, Gibson Museum & Cultural Center, Lakeport”s Historic Courthouse Museum, Lower Lake”s Historic Schoolhouse Museum, Anderson Marsh State Park and the Lake County Genealogical Society — is recommending four-hour shifts, and interested people can sign on for as little as one shift. For their help, each volunteer will get a free-of-charge pass to the fair on the day of your duty so you can tour the entire grounds.
Gibson”s contribution will be a slideshow presentation on a big screen using historic photos keyed to the fair”s theme of Hot August Family Fun, Bouska stated.
“If you have a historic photo of a family picnic, or dip in the ol” swimming hole, or a family member enjoying the pool at one of our resorts, a summer picnic or other old-time family fun we”d love to borrow it to scan and present.”
Museum volunteers are planning to hold a yard-sale fundraiser in September, and they are ready to start accepting donations. No clothing, but just about anything else, Bouska stated.
Volunteers will also kick off a series of special displays in November, starting with a display focused on Veterans Day to honor local veterans. People can submit treasures of family”s service from any war.
“We”ll follow that with an old-fashioned Christmas display, so we”re also seeking historical photos, mementos, ornaments, etcetera, to show what the Christmas holidays used to be,” Bouska stated.
“Overall, we”re recovering from the long haul of creating the museum and its opening, and are now focusing on getting it together to move on. We still need your help and your support,” Bouska added.
To submit a photo for the Lake County Fair call 987-2433, to submit an item for the veterans display call 809-8009 and to submit an item for the Christmas display call Bouska at 987-2349. People can also email gibsonmuseum@gmail.com.
The museum is located at 21267 Calistoga St. in Middletown.
