SACRAMENTO >> The Assembly Committee on Aging and Long-Term Care, chaired by Assemblymember Mariko Yamada (D-Davis), will host a joint informational hearing on Tuesday with the newly established Senate Select Committee on Aging and Long Term Care, chaired by Senator Carol Liu.
“Since 2010, I have had the privilege to serve as the chair of the Assembly Aging and Long-Term Care Committee and have focused on bringing attention and crafting solutions to address the needs of older adults,” Yamada said. “California”s demographics are rapidly shifting in both age and diversity, making it imperative for us to expand the conversations that focus on specific aging populations.”
California has the largest population of people age 65 and older of any state in the nation. The state”s long-term care system is not prepared for this growing segment of the population, Dyane Osorio, Yamada”s press secretary, stated. Both committees seek to develop a coordinated strategy to meet these needs.
Yamada represents the 4th Assembly District which includes all or parts of Colusa, Lake, Napa, Solano, Sonoma and Yolo counties.
