UKIAH >> The Rising Stars Music Showcase is searching for musicians and vendors for its seventh annual event to be held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sept. 27 at Alex Thomas Plaza.
The showcase is a multi-musician, multi-genre competition in which musicians from Lake and Mendocino counties compete for prizes. Presented by 94.5 K-Wine, City of Light Recording and Sound, Max 93.5 and Mendo Lake Credit Union, the event is held to benefit local charities.
Solo musicians and group musicians from all genres are encouraged to enter the competition. Bands will be placed in divisions according to their genre of music, and each act will be judged on their stage performance and presence, talent and audience reaction. Prizes will be awarded to the winners in each genre and to the overall winner of the competition. Prizes include recording studio time at City Of Light Recording and Sound and cash.
At the end of the night, the 2013 Rising Stars Music winners, The Whitetrash Superstars, will take the stage to entertain the crowd while the final scores are calculated.
The deadline for entry is Sept. 5, but due to the limited amount of spots in each genre, musicians are encouraged to apply early.
As a family-friendly event, Rising Stars is also an opportunity for organizations and businesses to get exposure. Nonprofits and businesses are welcomed to rent booth space at the event. Vendors can sell items, distribute information or host participatory games. Vendors must sign up by Sept. 5.
The showcase is an effort to promote awareness of the musical talent in the area while helping community organizations.
To enter the competition or for booth space, submit an entry though www.risingstarscompetition.com.
