Fishermen and pleasure boaters are being warned to use caution when launching their boats at the public ramps around Clear Lake. The low water can cause a number of problems, some of which may result trailers slipping off the ends of the ramps.

On Saturday a bass fishermen nearly lost both his trailer and his truck when the trailer dropped off the end of the ramp at the Lakeside County Park.

The trailer ended up resting on its frame. Meanwhile, the truck nearly slid into the water. It required a heavy duty strap with a winch to lift the trailer off the bottom so that it could be pulled out of the water.

The water depth at many of the ramps around Clear Lake have been measured at two feet or less and the lake level continues to drop about two inches a week. The ramps are often coated with algae, which makes them slippery.
