LAKEPORT >> A dedication ceremony for three Civil War veterans will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Hartley Cemetery.

The Lake County Honors Team invites all who wish to honor and dedicate the new grave stones to the veterans, who were previously in unmarked graves. The honored are George W. Bramlet, Pvt. of Company C 4th Regiment California Infantry; Abner H. Dodge, Pvt. of Company H 4th Regiment Wisconsin and Lewis A. Welty, Pvt. of Company E 81st Regiment Illinois Infantry.

There were six unmarked graves of Civil War veterans at Hartley Cemetery, according to Darrel Bittle. The honors team found the families of the three listed, and were able to sign the Veterans Affairs applications for grave stones provided by the Veterans Administration. Paperwork was submitted through the County Veterans Service Office.

There remain three unmarked graves of Civil War veterans that have been researched and no family found. They are Michael Trafs, Pvt. of the 1st independent Battery Wisconsin Light Artillery; James Caufield, Pvt. of Company C 136th New York Infantry and William K Vickroy, Lt. of Company B 4th regiment Minnesota Infantry.

There are also at least six Civil War veterans in unmarked graves at Lower Lake Cemetery. They have yet to be searched and families contacted.

They are: Sherman Coder, Herman Winchester, Seth Winchester, Henry Pierson, Samuel McCellan and Bernard McGee.

Unknown locations, believed to be at Lower Lake cemetery:

Orson Ozmun, Charles Quackenbush, Harry Bertram, Young H Adams, James Sykes and John Turner.

Also in Kelseyville a John Kelsey, of Missouri, buried at the crossroads of Renfro and Merritt next to his wife is unmarked. There are several John Kelseys that served in the Civil war from Missouri. Unless a family member can come forward and say which unit he served in we a grave stone cannot be acquired for him.
