CLEARLAKE >> The Olszak family wasn”t expecting the Clearlake Police Department (CPD) and U.S Marshals at their house Sept. 4.
“My daughter came running inside screaming ”There is somebody on the roof,”” Cindi Olszak, 54, of Clearlake said. “I heard the dogs barking and told her and her sister to go into the back room”
Olszak looked out her living room window to see law enforcement officers–several of them–arresting an unknown man.
That man was Daniel Eugene Reagan, 27, of Modesto.
“Reagan had an outstanding parole warrant for his arrest and also several outstanding arrest warrants from other counties for home invasion robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm,” CPD Sgt. Tim Hobbs stated.
At approximately 4:45, CPD Officer Travis Lenz reportedly spotted Reagan standing next to a parked vehicle on Austin Road in Clearlake. As Lenz approached Reagan reportedly began to walk away.
“Officer Lenz told him to stop or he would deploy his K-9,” Hobbs stated.
It was then that Reagan allegedly broke into a run and entered the yard of a home he was passing. By the time Lenz released the K-9 and followed, Reagan had climbed over the fence into a second yard.
The second yard belonged to the Olszak family, and their eight-camera surveillance system recorded everything.
“He climbed the fence onto our carport,” Olszak said. “But it is made of fiberglass and he broke through.”
“He”s lucky he didn”t get impaled,” she continued.
The CPD K-9 grabbed hold of Reagan and Lenz arrested him on outstanding warrant charges and resisting arrest, Hobbs stated. Additionally, Reagan was charged with possession of narcotic controlled substances and paraphernalia, which were reportedly found in his backpack.
“I would have liked to have high-fived all of the officers and other agency members for an amazing execution of capturing this guy,” Olszak said. “It was amazing watching them in action.”
Reagan was injured on his leg and buttocks as a result of the K-9 apprehension, which he was treated for at the scene before being transported to St. Helena Hospital in Clearlake.
After Reagan was medically cleared, he was taken to the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility, where he was booked. His bail is set at $250,000.
As for the damage to the property, Olszak said that Four Corners Building Supply, Inc., in Clearlake, “said they will do all they can to help me get the materials needed for the repairs.”
“I was already overwhelmed with house repairs that need to be done before winter and I was literally in tears over this new damage,” she said. “My sad tears turned to happy tears. “There is a lot of work to be done to tear down and rebuild, but I couldn”t even begin to do it if not for Four Corners Building Supply reaching out to me,” Olszak added
