In response to “The ruthless rootless boys…” in the Sept. 13th edition, a couple of observations:

While Ms. Geyer places blame upon President Bush for our current President having to declare a “counterterrorism operation”… er, war on the Islamist”s she might recall that the war started before Mr. Bush was president. But perhaps those darn facts of history get in her way of an agenda or, more accurately, a false world view, for the roots of this war go all the way back to Munich 1972 and those fateful Olympics.

Actually they, centering on what today we call the Shiite- Sunni conflict, go back even further, to Ishmael. He was given a “blessing” that contained these apocalyptic words: “This man will be like a wild donkey. His hand will be against everyone, and everyone”s hand will be against him he will live at odds with all his brothers.” The Arabs take Ishmael as their heir and, yes they are fully contentious with all, especially their brothers, as we are witnessing firsthand.

Secondly I question the flow of her logic: Is it Bush”s fault or the fault of the masses of aimless educated youth that she mentions in the second half of her op-ed piece that no longer go through rituals to define and transition themselves into productive humans?

Perhaps, again, her world view gets in the way as she draws conclusions. At the heart of the matter are people good or somewhat to severely rotten at the core? If good, then we just need to try harder to straighten them out. If deceitful, then who has the answer? I could recommend a good book has the answers.

Meanwhile, no matter who is to blame, we are at war with an enemy and all of us, from the “peaceniks” to the “warmongers,” recognize it- that is until a faulty world view again clouds reality.
