KELSEYVILLE >> Victor Cacho scored twice in the first five minutes of the game and the Kelseyville Knights went on to beat the Cloverdale Eagles 4-3 in North Central League I varsity boys” soccer action at Kelseyville.
The host Knights improved to 2-0 in league play and 5-1 overall. While the Eagles (1-1) trailed the entire way, they did close to 4-3 with 10 minutes remaining.
“We made a couple of mistakes and they scored,” Kelseyville coach Eduardo Ledesma said. “They”re a decent team, a physical team.”
Victor Cacho also assisted on one of the two goals by Enrique Cacho. Elias Alvarez finished with two assists.

St. Helena 6, Lower Lake 0
At St. Helena, the Lower Lake Trojans (0-2, 2-4) were shut out by the St. Helena Saints in a battle of teams looking for their first league win.
“We came out pretty flat,” Lower Lake coach Dan Griffin said. “We were outhustled and outplayed ? there”s not much else to say. They (Saints) really played well.”
Willits 4, Clear Lake 0
At Willits, the Clear Lake Cardinals turned in a strong effort but still fell to the Willits Wolverines in NCL I action.
“We were very unlucky with three of the goals,” Clear Lake co-coach Shaun Hornby said. “It should have been a 1-0 game.”
Clear Lake suffered a big blow on Tuesday when starting keeper Frankie Sturr was lost for the season with a broken foot in a league-opening loss to Cloverdale. Bailey Elkington is now in the net for the Cardinals.
“You have to remember our team is basically freshmen and sophomores against juniors and seniors. We don”t have a JV team. We”re rebuilding and they are coming along,” Hornby said. “It”s the best game I”ve seen our team play this year or last year.”
Clear Lake is 0-2 in league and 0-4 overall.
Girls” soccer
Middletown 4, Fort Bragg 2
At Fort Bragg, Kaleigh Alves scored all of Middletown”s goals, one a header, as the Mustangs improved to 2-0 in the NCL I standings with a victory over the Timberwolves.
Usually a starting forward for the Mustangs (2-0, 5-1-1), Alves began the game against Fort Bragg in the midfield.
“I wanted to see if should could make something happen,” Middletown coach Amy Emerson said.
The junior did.
Alves scored the only goal of the first half. She made it 2-0 in the first seven minutes of the second half, then scored a short time later as the Mustangs went up 3-0.
Madison Ketchum assisted on two of Alves” goals and Rosie Emerson on another.
Clear Lake 5, Willits 0
At Willits, Clear Lake”s Emily Hayes scored two quick goals and the Cardinals rolled past the Willits Wolverines for their first league win.
Hayes scored less than two minutes in the game and picked up her second goal five minutes later to make it 2-0.
“She came out like she had been shot out of a rocket,” Clear Lake coach Paul Larrea said.
Hannah Norwood and Shyanne Chapin added goals later in the half to make it 4-0. Taylor Helms picked up an insurance goal in the second half as the Cardinals improved to 1-1 in league and 7-3-1 overall.
Cloverdale 3, Kelseyville 0
At Kelseyville, the Cloverdale Eagles scored all of their goals in the first 25 minutes while shutting out the Kelseyville Knights in NCL I action.
Kelseyville (0-2, 4-3) was minus three starters and had only one substitute.
“They did a really good job today, I”m proud of them,” Kelseyville coach Dave Wold said. “Cloverdale is a good team.”
The Eagles improved to 2-0 in the league standings.
