CLEARLAKE >> The advanced students in the Yuba College Culinary Program created a feast for those who attended the third annual fundraiser dinner for the Children”s Museum of Art and Science (CMAS).
The Aromas Caf? on the college campus was packed. Chef Robert Cabreros” crew turned local produce, donated by Adamson Ranch in Lower Lake, into a meal. Students used olive oil donated by Chacewater of Kelseyville for extra added flavor for their dishes.
Everyone was tapping their toes to the tones of InVoice, headed by Bill Bordisso. Doug Harris, Libby Larson and Keith Larson rounded out the group. Bordisso, who is also the leader of the Lake County Rocket Club, took a minute to explain about this club. It is free-of-charge to any fourth through eighth grade student in the county and meets weekly at Taylor Observatory. CMAS and the Lake County Office of Education support the program.
Sarah Fred, who has been volunteering at CMAS events since she was in high school, sold raffle tickets and ran the raffle. A certificate from Case Excavating, a quilt made by Lela Prather and a collection of science kits donated by the Grocery Outlet were among the most sought-after raffle prizes.
Attendees also saw a video of Mr.Lee”s fifth-grade class at Pomo Elementary use the LEGO robot kits provided by CMAS for a two-hour class workshop last spring. CMAS member Billy Gear was on hand with a robot kit and laptop and encouraged people to try their hand at making a robot.
Plans are already underway for next year”s dinner, traditionally held the first Saturday after Labor Day.
CMAS is a nonprofit, all volunteer organization whose mission is to provide free art and science activities and events for the youth of Lake County.
