CLEARLAKE >> Daniel Eugene Reagan, who allegedly evaded arrest by climbing onto a Clearlake resident”s carport only to fall through it, entered a plea of not guilty to seven counts on Tuesday.
The Clearlake Police Department (CPD) originally attempted to arrest Reagan, 27 of Modesto, on Sept. 4 for an outstanding parole warrant and warrants from other counties for home invasion robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
However, after allegedly running from CPD officers and climbing the fence of one residence to reach the carport of the Olszak family”s home, Reagan is facing additional felony and misdemeanor charges. The charges include possession of a controlled substance, vandalism, resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer, giving false information to a police officer and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Senior Deputy District Attorney Sharon Lerman-Hubert.
The incident leading to his arrest began when a Clearlake police officer reportedly spotted Reagan standing by a parked vehicle along Austin Rd. on Sept. 4. When the officer approached, Reagan allegedly broke into a run. The Olszak family captured video of Reagan climbing on top of the carport, breaking through its fiberglass roof and being caught by a CPD K-9 unit with their eight-camera surveillance system.
Reagan”s two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance could carry a sentence of up to three years, Lerman-Hubert said.
Reagan is being represented by attorney Mitchell Hauptman. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 29.
