GLENHAVEN >> A sheriff”s deputy lost control of his patrol vehicle in a failed attempt to pass a big rig and struck a car head on, causing major injuries to the driver, Thursday morning on Highway 20.

Lake County Sheriff”s Office Deputy Richard Kreutzer was driving at about 30 mph westbound on Highway 20 near Bruner Drive behind a big rig, according to California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Kory Reynolds. When the big rig pulled over to allow traffic to pass Kreutzer moved to the left, and as he turned his patrol vehicle to the right toward his original lane he lost control.

Kreutzer crossed the double-yellow lines and collided with a 2002 Honda Accord driven by Marc Loberg, 28, of Sacramento, Reynolds stated.

Loberg sustained major injuries with a broken left arm and complaints of pain to the hip, chest and ankle, Reynolds stated.
