LAKEPORT >> Hon. Laurence K. Sawyer, retired Superior Court judge, will be the speaker at the Lake County Mediations meeting on Wednesday.

Sawyer, a Neutral with JAMS (formerly Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Service), will address “Ethics in Mediation”, at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Lake County Board of Supervisors (BOS) chambers.

Members of the public are welcome to attend at no-cost. Lake County Mediations mediators will receive continuing education credits. Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) will be provided for attorneys and paralegals by the Lake County Bar Association (cost is $35 for non-members, $10 for members of the Lake County Bar Association).

Mediation is an informal and confidential way for people to resolve disputes with the help of a neutral mediator who is trained to help people discuss their differences. The mediator does not decide who is right or wrong or issue a decision. Instead, the mediator helps the parties work out their own solutions to problems.

There will also be Basic Mediation training which includes 28 hours CLE credits on Oct. 10, 11, 17, 18 and 25 in Kelseyville. For more information on either event, call 263-6800 or email LCM@LakeCountyMediations.org.

The BOS chambers are inside the Lake County Courthouse located at 255 N. Forbes St. in Lakeport.

Deb Clarke is marketing director and board member of Lake County Mediations.
