The teams played a scoreless first quarter before the Eagles (1-0 league, 3-1 overall) punched the ball into the end zone for a touchdown just nine seconds into the second quarter. Cloverdale led 14-0 at halftime and added to its lead with two more scores in the third quarter.
Clear Lake committed seven turnovers — four lost fumbles and three interceptions.
“Every opportunity we had (on offense) we shot ourselves in the foot,” Clear Lake coach Darin Brodnansky said.
Cole Brodnansky rushed for a team-leading 116 yards on 21 carries as Clear Lake fell to 3-1 on the season.
“We moved the ball, ate up a good portion of the first quarter, but we fumbled at the goal line going into the end zone,” Brodnansky said. “It just didn”t go our way.”
