MIDDLETOWN >> The showdown of 4-0 versus 4-0 was all Middletown on Tuesday afternoon as the Mustangs hammered the Cloverdale Eagles 6-1 in a North Central League I girls” soccer showdown for first place at Middletown High School.

Middletown (5-0 league, 8-1-1 overall) led 4-0 after one half.

Middletown coach Amy Emerson said the Mustangs had their projected starting lineup at season”s start on the field for the first time in league play.

“It made all the difference,” Emerson said. “I didn”t have to move people out of position. We had everyone out there and we made some great passes. Our passing is better every game.”

Cloverdale (4-1) scored the first goal of the second half but the Mustangs answered with two goals of their own, one each by Caitlyn Lemoine and Rosie Emerson.

Middletown went up 4-0 in the first half on goals, in order, by Megan Touros, Kaleigh Alves, Lemoine and Alves again.

Touros also had two assists.

“I”m proud of our team,” Emerson said. “We lost seven starters to graduation and this team is rebuilding so fast.”

Middletown hosts Clear Lake (3-1-1) in another key league game on Thursday at 4 p.m.
