Starting in January, the public will have the opportunity to participate in an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training program at Yuba College Clear Lake Campus.
The EMT class prepares students to take the certification examination as an EMT-1 and meet State EMT-1 training standards. Enrolled students will participate in lectures and labs to acquire all the skills and principles necessary to perform the duties of EMT-1.
The primary instructor will be D.J. Kennedy with a cadre of specialists augmenting the training. The class will meet at the Clearlake Fire Department. The class will begin January 12, 2015 and meet on Monday and Wednesday evenings as well as designated Saturdays.
Completion of this program is a requirement for certification as an EMT, but not a guarantee of certification.
Clearlake Fire Chief Willie Sapeta stated, “There is a huge need for this program,” said Clearlake Fire Chief Willie Sapeta. “The area fire chiefs have not been able to hire local candidates in a long time. We desperately need a local training program. We are very excited to have this training program in Clearlake.”
Enrollments in this program will begin in November. Interested students may call Yuba College Clear Lake Campus at 995-7900 or visit the college web site at www.clc.yccd.edu for additional information and instructions on enrollment and availability for financial aid.
