MIDDLETOWN >> A head-on collision on Highway 29 at Butts Canyon Road Friday morning has resulted in at least one person sustaining major injuries. The cause of the crash is still unknown, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Kory Reynolds.
In a press statement released on Friday afternoon, the CHP declared that Angel Villalobos, 59, was driving southbound on Highway 29 with passengers Andres Lozano, 71, and Miguel Villalobos, 56. While preparing to turn left onto Butts Canyon Road, he collided with Jeffrey Story, 56, who was heading northbound on Highway 29.
Highway patrol officers, a REACH air ambulance and the South Lake County Fire Protection District responded to the incident.
Both Angel and Miguel Villalobos were transported by REACH to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Lozano was admitted at St. Helena Hospital, Clearlake and Story told officers he would seek his own medical care. Reynolds was only aware of Miguel Villalobos” specific injuries, which included a broken vertebrae, broken ribs and a broken sternum.
CHP is conducting an investigation into the crash. Drugs or alcohol is not suspected to have been involved, Reynolds said.
