FORT BRAGG >> Ty Chorjel scored on a pair 1-yard runs Friday night as the Middletown Mustangs built a 21-0 lead en route to a 28-14 victory over the Fort Bragg Timberwolves in North Central League I junior varsity football action at Fort Bragg.

Justin Rainey”s 30-yard run opened the scoring for Middletown. After the first of Chorjel”s toucdowns made it 14-0 later in the first quarter, quarterback Rob Carey tossed a 25-yard touchdown pass to Johnny Kelley in the second quarter to boost Middletown”s advantage to 21-0. Fort Bragg scored in the closing seconds of the half on a 17-yard pass to make it 21-6.

Middletown added to its lead early in the fourth quarter on Chorjel”s second TD run. Fort Bragg scored with 34 seconds left to get a bit closer.

“We ran the ball really well and took control of the game,” Middletown coach Tony Hart said. “We made very few mistakes.”

Middletown improved to 2-0 in league and 5-0 overall with its 15th straight victory dating back to last season. Rainey led the Mustangs with 123 rushing yards while Chorjel added 67 more. Carey went 4-for-6 for 67 yards passing the ball.

Middletown”s defense picked off four Fort Bragg passes, including two by Carey, who also kicked all of the Mustangs” extra points. Kelley and Trey O”Neill also had interceptions. Sacks went to Devin Ross and Brenden Steele.

The Mustangs travel to St. Helena this Friday night for a showdown with also-undefeated Saints (2-0, 5-0).

“St. Helena has a solid team and a fast team, but I like our chances,” Hart said.
