LAKEPORT >> The Kelseyville Knights needed the minimum three sets to send the Clear Lake Cardinals on their way Tuesday evening during North Central League I varsity volleyball action at Lakeport.
Kelseyville rolled to a 25-13, 25-14, 25-19 victory, improving to 4-1 in the league standings in the process. Clear Lake fell to 2-3.
“We served it up on a platter,” Clear Lake coach Marci Psalmonds said. “We had 24 service receive errors. We couldn”t pass. It was absolutely the worst I”ve seen them play. We couldn”t get the ball to our hitters.”
“Mary McCallister was the passing queen for us tonight,” said Kelseyville coach Donelle McCallister, who doubles as Mary”s mother.
Riley Goff had eight kills and 16 assists to fuel Kelseyville”s fourth straight league win. Kayla Zarate added seven aces and Heidy Cano had two blocks.
Aliza Atkins had six kills and Kiana Richardson four blocks for the Cardinals.
Kelseyville won the junior varsity match 25-13, 23-25, 15-10. Valerie Hutton had six kills for Clear Lake.

Lower Lake def. Willits
At Lower Lake, the Lower Lake Trojans improved to 2-3 in league play with a 25-14, 25-17, 25-18 win over the Willits Wolverines.
“We could have played better, but we did well,” Lower Lake coach Darcie Schmidt said. “We”re not consistent enough yet but we”re getting there.”
Bailey DeLong, Lower Lake”s sophomore setter, had 16 assists to go along with five points. Other contributors to the win were Shelbie Harris with 12 points, including five aces, Brooke Taliaferro with 15 points, including five aces, and three kills, Jolene Scarborough with five kills, and Ashlynn Mock with eight kills and five aces.
Lower Lake”s JVs won their first league match 25-15, 25-17 behind 10 aces and three kills from Rachelle Wagner and 11 points and five aces from Rebekah Armijo.
Middletown def. Cloverdale
At Cloverdale, the Middletown Mustangs notched a big road win in Cloverdale, beating the Eagles 30-28, 20-25, 25-20, 25-14. Both teams are now 3-2 in league play.
Renee Edwards led the way for the Mustangs with 11 kills, nine blocks and five aces. Middletown also received solid performances from Emily Lescher, who had seven kills and four blocks; from Ginacia Dusatko, who had eight kills and five aces; and from Abby Aden, who have two kills and three blocks.
Middletown”s JVs also won, 25-13, 32-30.
Roseland Prep def. Upper Lake
At Upper Lake, Roseland Prep rallied for a five-set win over the Upper Lake Cougars, 22-25, 25-16, 18-25, 25-14, 15-8 in NCL II action.
“I thought we had it,” Upper Lake coach Raelene Cromwell said. “Roseland Prep”s serves in the last two games … we weren”t able to dig them up.”
Sierra Fugate led the Cougars with seven kills and five blocks. Autum Martinez added 15 digs, eight points and four kills while Theresa Lopez had 14 digs, nine points and four kills.
Upper Lake”s JVs remained undefeated with a 25-21, 16-25, 16-14 win. Cristina Wilson led the way with eight kills, Isabel Rorabaugh had three kills, nine points and six digs, and Natalie Karlsson finished with nine points, six digs and two kills.
Girls” soccer
Kelseyville 2, Willits 1
At Kelseyville, Cristina Covarrubias converted both of her penalty kicks as the Knights edged the Willits Wolverines for their first NCL I win.
Covarrubias” first goal came in the first half and tied the game at 1. She scored again midway through the second half to put the Knights (1-4-2, 5-5-2) ahead to stay.
“Cristina saved the day for us,” Kelseyville coach Dave Wold said. “She is very accurate with those (penalty) kicks.”
Caroline Contreras, a returning All-Leaguer for the Knights, anchored the Kelseyville defense.
“Wherever the ball was, she was,” Wold said. “You could see the frustration in the faces of the Willits players.”
Boys” soccer
Middletown 2, Lower Lake 0
At Middletown, the Middletown Mustangs won their second straight league game on first-half goals by Victor Lopez and Misael Lopez.
“The defense played really well,” Middletown coach Luis Chairez said. “We made very few mistakes, a big improvement from some of our other games.”
“I didn”t see the urgency in my players,” Lower Lake coach Dan Griffin said. “We came out flat and didn”t seem to want it enough. The defense and midfield played OK, but the shot selection by our offense was kind of ugly.”
Middletown is 2-5 and 2-7 overall. Lower Lake fell to 1-5-1 and 3-7-1.
Fort Bragg 5, Clear Lake 2
At Fort Bragg, the Clear Lake Cardinals played a strong second half in a league loss to the Fort Bragg Timberwolves.
Christian Cerda and Danny Cerda scored for the Cardinals (0-7, 0-9).
“We played out of our skin in the second half ? the team played great,” Clear Lake co-coach Shaun Hornby said. “I don”t know why we can”t play better in the first half.”
Clear Lake trailed 4-0 at halftime.
