UPDATED:

I live in a sweet little house, built with my father”s hands and inherited by me from my parents. I have four windows which border my neighbor”s property. When I look out of them, I see only black tarp which is only feet from my house. I can no longer open the windows to let in the fresh Lake County air because of the pervading smell of his marijuana field.

I fear for the sort of activity this pursuit might bring to my quiet neighborhood and I wonder why this goes on when I have repeatedly reported it. Driving between 18th and 31st Avenues I spotted seven new growing fields-what could be seen from the road anyway-all of them with neighboring houses on either side.

Purporting that marijuana is a positive economic move for Lake County or that it provides a multitude with pain relief? People grow marijuana for two reasons. The larger growers look to make themselves wealthy and the smaller growers just want to get high. I am a child of the sixties. Been there. Frankly, I don”t care if anyone grows or smokes (providing they don”t drive a car or care for children while doing so), but NOT in neighborhoods where people are seeking a simple, quiet and peaceful life.

I had considered voting for Measure O, but I can”t help but wonder about what assurance we have that those flaunting the laws and ordinances at this very moment would be motivated to comply with restrictions of any kind. Perhaps that is one of the most discouraging points about the marijuana debate: that people are doing whatever they please with no regard for laws or fellow citizens, and that enforcement doesn”t happen. Haven”t seen any weed money fixing roads or parks or the lake or helping the kids who wait next to it at the bus stop twice a day. Not sure the takeover would be worth even that.

Sad, sad, and sadder
